It’s no secret our Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, and Simi Valley real estate markets are going through a shift. Interest rates on mortgages jumped from 3% to 7% very quickly. This makes it more difficult for people to buy a home.
Homeowners who don’t need to sell are generally staying put since they are locked into a low mortgage interest rate, which is keeping inventory low. Builders are also pulling back.
The bottom line is we’re heading back to a normal real estate market after years of emergency financial stimulus provided by our government and the Federal Reserve.

The problem is our national news has sensationalized this situation. When it comes to residential real estate, it’s very local—down to the specific neighborhood and street. What you hear in the news isn’t necessarily what’s happening right here in the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, and Simi Valley areas.
